From November, 22 to December, 01, 2017, I visited Goiânia, the capital of Goiás, and now I list some nice things I have done there 😉
1- Eating a jantinha (small dinner meal).
In Goiânis, they sell jantinhas, which is brochette with rice, feijão tropeiro (beans and yuka flour), boiled yuka and vinaigrette.
2- Going to malls.
Before going to Goiânia, I asked for tips about thing to do there and people told me that in Goiânia all you have to do is to go to malls and bars. So, I visited some malls: Flamboyant, Bougainville, Goiânia and Cerrado. I also saw a book store with an entire bookcase for local writers.
3- Visiting Museu de Antropologia and Museu de Arte de Goiânia.
They are small museums, but sometimes there are nice exhibitions.
4- Walking around Praça Cívica and visiting the museums.
I went to Goiânia some days before Christmas, so the square was adorned with Christmas stuff and it was beautiful. There are also nice museums such as Museu Goiano, that shows Goiás history.
5- Taking a picture at Praça do Sol.
At this square, there is the Eu S2 Goiânia, so it is nice to go there and take a picture.
6- Going to Feira da Lua.
It is a very famous fair in the city. People sell almost everything there. I recommend you taste the torta goiana (a pie filled with lots os meat), pamonha (local food made with corn, there is the sweet and the salt version) and a cake (they sell big slices that seem very delicious).
7- Going to the parks.
Besides malls and bars, Goiânia has lots of parks. They are small and you can walk and see the entire area. I visited Vaca Brava, Flamboyant and Bosque dos Buritis.
8- Eating pamonhas.
I love corn and all the foods made with it. In Goiânia, there is corn in every restaurant. The main dish is pamonha: there is sweet version (filled with cheese, and this is my favorite), salt (also filled with cheese) and a la mode (filled with cheese and sausage). You should try them all.
9- Visiting Mercado Central.
It is nice to know the central market of every city. The Goiano one is close to the Pamonharia Central and there are local food and gifts. The requeijão de corte (kind of creamy cheese) is very delicious.
10- Going to Quiosque da Colombina (or visiting the brewery).
I coul not go to the brewery, so I visited the bar. Colombina is a local beer and I like to try the local beers. The bar is kind of a food truck and there are others at the same space, like P de Pizza. If you want something different, try cozumel, whick is kind of a caipirinha, bus instead of using cachaça, they put beer.
These were my indications. For sure, I did not mention lots of places, but maybe I can come back one day and update this post. To finish this text, I want to say that Goiânia has more to offer than malls and bars: there are other nice places to visit and good pamonha to taste.
